Amsterdam’s new it-place takes the Japanese dining experience to the next level.
This coming October the city of Amsterdam will have gained one new hospitality hotspot. Opening in the vibrant area ‘De Pijp’, minutes away from the Albert Cuyp Market and the Museum quarter, IZAKAYA will open its doors. Located at the foot of the chique Sir Albert boutique hotel, IZAKAYA will prove to be a haven of indulgence.
International entrepreneur Yossi Eliyahoo (including MOMO restaurant and bar, Amsterdam) is the brains and soul behind this new and refreshing Asian kitchen and Bar. The heart of this venue is the traditional Japanese Robata grill. Behind the open grill, in full view of all guests, the IZAKAYA chefs work their magic. IZAKAYA combines this ancient technique with its own trendy signature, resulting in simply irresistible dishes. Executive chef Hariprasad Shetty, previously head chef of London’s fashionable restaurant ‘Nobu’ at Park lane, has designed the innovative menu.
Besides the grilled specialties, the well-balanced Izakaya menu also offers Sakana - a variety of small dishes, Osume – specially prepared food from the heart, and the Hibachi fire bowl - a traditional Japanese small cooking hot plate designed to hold burning charcoal. Naturally they also gladly serve market-fresh sashimi and mouthwatering rolls. All dishes are served on ethnical Japanese crockery.
IZAKAYA, best translated from Japanese, as ‘pub’ is a unique and vital cornerstone of the Japanese food culture, uninhibited and welcoming. The concept is authentic but not traditional. Like an Asian grazing menu, you can order as many or as few dishes you want, depending on your mood. The IZAKAYA dishes are made for sharing which gives you the opportunity to experience different textures and flavours. At IZAKAYA it’s always worth trying at least one dish you have never had before.
IZAKAYA is literally ‘raising the bar’ when it comes to beverages. It serves a vast array of house infused tonics based on the ancient Japanese spirit Shochu. Distilled from several raw ingredients such as barley, buckwheat and sweet potato, Shochu proves to be the ultimate base for not only the well-being tonics but also a wide selection of cocktails. Of course more traditional cocktails are also served to perfection. The wine cellar is home to over 300 premium wines from all over the globe, including a selection of 13 wines served by the glass.
Designed by international award winning interior designers BK Architects, IZAKAYA redefines the traditional Japanese Izakaya. Built upon centuries of classical Izayaka spaces and inspired by the five five traditional Japanese elements: earth, water, wind, fire and heaven, the design of IZAKAYA is authentic and simple, thus creating a stylish and energetic atmosphere, fit for the requirements of the cosmopolitan city.
